Divergent Lives

Remember
when our differences
were theoretical?

The abstractions
of politics
religion
and god.

Insignificant
compared to
the sameness
of our daily
lives.

We thought
differently
but acted
similarly.

Which made
the differences
less real.

Divergent lives
shaped by
theoretical
divides.

Have changed
our daily
routines.

Giving reality
to the theoretical
abstractions
of youth.

It is harder now
that our differences
are real.

But my religion
is love
my politics
cooperation
my god
the creation.

To hate you
would be heresy
to hurt you
would be anarchy
to reject you
would be impossible.

It is harder now
but I love you still.

Imperfect Heart

Imperfect heart
you have much to learn
about perfectly loving.

Resisting
as you do
acceptance
of imperfect man.

Hating
most ardently
reflections
of your own
imperfect nature.

Loathing
as you do
past sins
wearing
unfamiliar faces.

You have much to learn
about perfectly loving
imperfect man.

Love Thy Enemy

The only way to destroy one’s enemies is to have none. There is no evil, only delusion. There are no enemies, only god. Only the heart’s capacity to disintegrate the differences between self and other-self can end the cycle of fear, hatred, and ignorance. That means blinking at neither the light nor dark, and looking even at one’s enemies and saying, “We are one body. You are me as well, even though you hate me and wish to destroy me.”

Love is the radical and unconditional acceptance of another being. It is the acknowledgement of other as self, and the acceptance of that other-self, even though they hate you or wish you harm. Avoid or withdraw from those beings who seek to harm you, but never make them your enemy.

Open Dear Heart

Open
dear heart
and love
this world.

Blink
neither
at the light
nor dark.

Open
dear heart
and let
the whole
world in.

Discriminate
neither against
the lovely
nor wretched.

Open
dear heart
even though
it hurts.

Shrink
neither from
the deserving
nor despicable.

Open
dear heart
and love
the infinite creation.

Neither
blinking
discriminating
nor shrinking away.
