I Believe in Progress

I believe in progress. Not necessarily at the social level, but at the level of the hearts and minds of each sentient being. As a pantheist the only difference I see between the creation and god is the illusion of separateness. The former being a fragment of the whole experiencing separateness to learn, grow, and enrich the creation/creator. This perspective assumes a certain evolution of consciousness/soul from the elements, to animals, then humans, and ultimately beyond. Each stage with its own lessons learned over many incarnations, as god becomes individuated consciousness on its long path back to source.

This perspective views the human incarnative experience as the stage of self-awareness working on the lessons of love. Love being the means by which we pierce the illusion of separateness and remember that all is one. What comes next is indeed the Kingdom of God, but this perspective requires each individual to build it in their own heart and mind. Therefore, the Kingdom of God is already among us.

This perspective believes each individual is responsible for their own salvation; that salvation is the work of many lifetimes, and that all beings ultimately find their way back home. We live on a planet of incarnative humans at all different stages of their journey, and the free will of each must be respected to learn their lessons at their own pace. Unfortunately, the instrument of instruction is suffering, and when the values of souls who haven’t learned the lessons of love takes over a society suffering ensues.

While I can work towards building a more loving society through politics and other mundane means, when the majority of people in my society insist on learning the lessons of love in a different way, then that is as it must be. The question for me and my journey is do I stay and witness the suffering and alleviate it where I can, or do I find a society more in alignment with my values?

Heart Beats

Ceasing hearts.
Ceaseless minds.

Heart beats,
Beating in a maelstrom.

Restless minds.

Heart beats,

Heart beats,

Ceaseless minds.

Worlds Within Me

I have things to say,
Which words cannot convey.

Worlds within me,
Needing life,
I cannot breathe.

Life as it would be,
Could be,
Should be.

If I can but speak the words,
That embody the ideals,
Then I’ll save the world.

I need a mystic chant,
An alchemy of nouns,
And agitating adjectives.

They found me,
I found them.

We need a rhythm,
A rhyme,
Something that sways.

A hypnotic chant,
A rousing speech,
A argument that cannot be denied.

I have things to say,
Which words cannot convey.

Worlds within me,
Needing life,
I cannot breathe.

We are sick, and have forgotten what health feels like. I am not speaking of individual vitality, though that certainly plays a role. I speak of cultural and spiritual degradation.

The West no longer exists as a culture or civilization. The Western World gave birth to democracy and the concepts of personal liberty and inalienable rights. These should have been our great contributions to global evolution towards peace, prosperity and human dignity. But we have been subverted, and our great contributions turned into cruel ironies.

Orwellian Doublespeak characterizes these once noble and ennobling values. Democracy is a choice between pre-approved corporately sponsored shills. Personal liberty is the freedom to be surveilled, interrogated, and routinely violated in mind and body. Inalienable rights are luxuries sacrificed on the alter of security.

We are sick, but there is a cure. As a culture we are addicted to fear, security, war and consumption. In short, we are addicted to the body and have forgotten our souls. But denying the soul’s existence does not make it go away. It merely sickens the body and mind. As a species we can be ennobled as spiritual being that create, love and learn – or we can be debased as bodies that consume, wage war and drift into sedentary unconsciousness. No one can deny you your soul, but the world is doing a very good job of convincing you that you do not have one.

The sleepers must awaken. We are not bodies to produce, keep safe, feed, and control. We are spiritual beings having a physical experience. What ennobles you? What lifts you out of your body and makes you feel joyful, light and alive? Identify these things and build your life around them. What degrades you and makes you feel like a body in motion trapped in space and time? Identify these things and remove them from your life and being.

Awaken and be free. Civilization is the culmination of individual actions, choices, and attitudes. A culture is defined by what it values. Right now we are addicted to the body and degrade the soul – so our civilization has become one of death and dysfunction. If we value the soul, and engage in those things that enliven and ennoble us, so to will our civilization be reborn and ennobled.
