A Half Blind Heart

by Zachary A. Horn

A half blind heart
wonders if it is
better to be blind.

Witnessing as it does
casual cruelties
and systematic atrocities.

That a blind heart
will never see
nor dare to know.

Bearing witness
in silent horror
to the uncomprehending
evil of the blind.

It wonders
if darkness
is better
than light.

If blindness
is better
than sight.

What good
is seeing
if the world
is blind.

What good
is loving
if the world
is full of hate.

Yet neither
light nor love
would the
half blind heart
unsee.
