Refuge in My Soul
by Zachary Adama
I’ve taken
refuge
in my soul.
You are the
only thing
that is real
I whisper.
You are the
only thing
I can control
I sigh.
I cannot
cure the
madness of men.
I cannot
make them
more loving
and kind.
I can only
be the change
I wish to see
in the world.
One act
of love and
kindness
at a time.
I will
love my
enemy.
Then
I will
have none.
I will
love my
neighbor
as myself.
Then
I will need
no fences.
I will
grow the light
within me.
Then
I will
lighten
the darkness
without.
